Idiot of the Day

First I'm gonna say that this was destined to be a disaster from the start. I think any normal-thinking person would realize that it's hard to navigate 35 moving objects. Maybe sticking 35 kids on a skate ramp was a dump idea. And what's up with Rip van Winkle running this joint? But the reporter is pure genius. I'll give you 2 seconds to think how this going to end.
He clearly never played Frogger. Idiot.

Bye, Bye Banks ... Until Another Day

One of my best photo experiences ever coincided with being in NYC and shooting one of my favorite things to watch, skateboarding. Kelly and I went to NYC a couple years ago and went with Eric to the Brooklyn Banks, this kickass spot under the Brooklyn Bridge that is a mecca for skaters. I got some great shots (though Kelly hates many of the ones I took of him because he never nailed things the way he wanted to) and you can check them out here.

Sadly, it looks like the Banks are going away for awhile. I caught this story online and got a little sad. They are making some improvements and fixes to the Brooklyn Bridge, and they have to close off the Banks in order to do it. Just had to take a moment and acknowledge the Banks for the sweet skate spot that it is, and hopefully one day I'll be back up there to photograph Kelly landing a tre flip or something.

The End of Falling

I sucked as a skateboarder. I'm also bummed I never had the guts to pick it back up. So now I live vicariously through Kelly, Flynn and the other grinders I meet through them. I posted this story to them last week, but I think it's worth sharing with the rest of the world around me as well. Kessler was a cool guy, even if I never actually knew him. Under the Bridge

It's been awhile since I shared a photo gallery, so now is as better time as any. Last summer the DC Crew went up to NYC to take in a couple Reds games and chill with our ex-patriot Eric, who had recently moved back to the East Coast from the much sunnier skies of California.

While Dboy and Dr. Dan caught 80-degree sunburn at Yankee Stadium, I accompanied E and Kelly down to The Banks, a legendary skate spot beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. It also happened that it was Skate NYC Day, so there was a phalanx of skaters, from novices to pros. E and Kelly fall somewhere in between.

Anyway, it was a cool day, if nothing else because I finally got to shoot some skate sessions and the photos actually turned out good. Kelly liked all the photos of him, except he keeps bringing up the fact that it was one of his lousiest sessions ever, so even though the photos are nice, he can't acknowledge or appreciate the large prints of them that I made because it reminds him of his failure. Great. That's just great.
